CANADIAN FIGURE SKATING CHAMPS SKATE THE EIGHT AT THE BENTWAY FEBRUARY 22, 2020

The special public skating event kicks-off a partnership with CBC Sports, extending The Bentway Skate Trail season to March 22 in support of their coverage of the World Figure Skating Championships

WHAT: ​
On Saturday, February 22, starting at 12:00 noon, The Bentway and CBC Sports are throwing a special event hosted by renowned Canadian ice dancer Asher Hill and three-time Canadian national champion Andrew Poje, in celebration of the upcoming World Figure Skating Championships in Montréal in March. Popular figure skaters, including Poje and Hill, will be skating The Bentway’s beloved figure-eight skate trail alongside the public - and maybe show off a trick or two!

The event also kicks off a partnership with CBC Sports that extends the skate season for all to enjoy. The outdoor skate trail, initially slated to close on Family Day, will now stay open with extended hours until the conclusion of the World Figure Skating Championships on Sunday, March 22, 2020 (great news for family-friendly March Break plans!). Plus, from March 18-22, live broadcasts of the championships will take place at the skate trail, so you can watch while you skate!

WHO:
Canadian athletes recognized on an international level, including:

  • Celebrated ice dancers Asher Hill and Andrew Poje
  • Two-time Canadian national figure skating champion Nam Nguyen
  • 2020 Canadian national ice dancing champions Piper Gilles & Paul Poirier
  • Two-time Canadian national pair skating champions Kirsten Moore-Towers & Michael Marinaro

WHEN:

  • 12:00 - 12:30 p.m.: Get up close and personal with some of the biggest names in figure skating before they head to the World Figure Skating Championships this March with a Q&A hosted by Asher Hill and Andrew Poje
  • 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.: Free Skate - Meet and skate the eight with the hosts!
  • 1:30 - 9:00 p.m.: Skate trail open for public skating
